Tool Evaluation

Managing in the Era of Uncertainty

The internet is a rich source of tools, training, and best practices for climate change planning. Not all tools and training materials, however, are created equal - instead, each has its strengths and weaknesses.

The Academy tools and training materials were selected from a larger group of hundreds of such items available from a variety of sources. These tools and materials were carefully screened and analyzed using a set of criteria designed to identify the ones that will be of the most practical assistance to the users of this website. Following is a brief overview of those criteria.

To evaluate tool quality, we identified criteria that fall into four classes:

  • Relevance
  • Legitimacy and credibility
  • Usability
  • Connection and communication

To evaluate training quality, we identified criteria that fall into three classes:

  • Scientific accuracy
  • Pedagogic effectiveness
  • Ease of use and technical quality

While Carpe Diem West believes the tools and training materials identified through the above criteria are the most useful and relevant ones available, Carpe Diem West does not assume responsibility for the accuracy of the tools and materials identified and/or discussed on this website.
