Tools

Carpe Diem West Academy helps western water and energy managers make sense of the vast array of available tools that might help them make better decisions in the face of climate uncertainty.
The problem is not that there are too few tools available. Rather, it is quite the opposite: there are literally hundreds of such tools, which vary a great deal in relevance and quality. To address this problem, we have invested a great deal of time in evaluating climate-related tools and resources according to a carefully-selected set of criteria.
The result is a subset of the most robust, scientifically-supported tools and best practices relevant to practical decision-making. These tools and resources have been further organized according to the eight decision-making steps set forth in the Roadmap. These features should help western water and energy mangers more efficiently find a reliable tool that is suited to their needs. There are four categories of tools as follows:
Click on the link for any tool category and you will see a list of tools for that category which provides a summary of the tool and a link to reach the tool. Each tool also allows for users to add and view comments and every month we will highlight a Tool of the Month.
- Data Tools include tools that enable either the analysis and/or visualization of data. These tools also include data related to climate change.
- Guide Tools tools include descriptions of processes that could be used for climate change planning.
- Information Tools include reports and websites that cover climate change topics in a general manner. Consider these tools to bolster your background knowledge.
- Training Tools involve online courses and/or certifications related to climate change planning.
Your Guide. Your Water. Your Decision.
"Our customizable guide can help you move local policymakers from awareness to action." This tool was created by Source Water Collaborative, an organization comprised of federal, state and local partners. The fact sheet, or guide, is designed to effectively deliver a lot of information in a small space. It takes only a couple of minutes to create once you have all your content lined up.
