How to Use
Managing in the Era of Uncertainty
This website is designed to help water and energy managers make sense of the array of climate-related materials available to them. It provides a compendium of information and tools and an interactive environment for water mangers to communicate and learn from each other. Use the discussion forum, blog and feedback mechanisms to share your thoughts and experiences and learn from peers.
The compendium, is a careful selection of tools that can help managers make better decisions in the face of climate uncertainty. Tools are sorted into four categories:
1. DATA - actual data and software that analyzes and/or displays data
2. INFO - general information in the form of reports
3. GUIDE - instructions on how to achieve a specified goal
4. TRAINING - online educational courses
Each tool includes a description of the tool and the URL where more information can be found. A key feature of the compendium is the organization of tools according to a decision-making roadmap. The Iterative Risk Framework originally developed by the United Kingdom Climate Impacts Program and endorsed by the National Academy of Sciences is a robust approach to informing decision-making under climate uncertainty. This roadmap divides the decision-making process into eight discrete steps, from defining the initial problem through implementing the decision and monitoring the results.
